Established in 2020Colchester Cares started in the Spring of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It began as a simple idea to personally donate money to support our town during a difficult time. As we talked with other like-minded individuals, we realized we could make a larger impact by pooling our financial resources. We also realized giving back to our community shouldn't be a one time occurrence that happens during a public health crisis, it should be an ongoing act of generosity in support of the local community organizations that support all of us every day.

How it worksThrough a partnership with the Givinga Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, we've established a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) through which tax-deductible donations can be made from those who become Colchester Cares members. Using this fund allows members to make donations safely, with the comfort of knowing 100% of their contribution goes to the chosen causes. Our goal is to maintain this vehicle so we can help others be intentional in their philanthropic efforts. The more members we get, the bigger impact we have in the town.

We certainly are lucky to have wonderful organizations, businesses and groups in town that give back. We see Colchester Cares as another way to support the town, and our model is attractive to many - quarterly giving that packs a punch, and a simple and streamlined way to offer ideas, collaborate with others and vote on worthy causes. You can also be confident that 100% of your donation goes to the chosen causes and is tax-deductible.
Who's behind this?
Colchester Cares was founded by Kim and Brian Talarczyk, residents of Colchester, CT since 2015. Kim and Brian moved to Colchester from the Boston, MA area and quickly learned how vibrant and charitable the local community is and how kind and generous the residents and small businesses of Colchester are. They instantly realized Colchester was the perfect place to raise their two young children and where they wanted to focus their philanthropic efforts.
Kim has a background in small business marketing and operations. She currently works part-time for a marketing consultancy. Brian has a background in information technology and professional services, and is currently a technology consultant.
